A practical moving checklist

Plan the move in small stages so important details do not disappear into the last day.

Before you commit

• Confirm the full monthly cost, deposit and any once-off charges in writing.
• Check the earliest move-in date, maximum occupants and minimum lease.
• View the property and confirm the advertiser has authority to rent it.

One week before moving

• Arrange transport, boxes and help for heavier items.
• Confirm key collection, access times and utility arrangements.
• Photograph the condition of the property during handover and keep the signed inspection record.

On moving day

• Keep identification, medication, valuables and essential chargers with you.
• Record meter readings where relevant.
• Do not hand over cash without a clear receipt.
